  REFLECTION

IMG_1264.jpg

Not a day goes by that I do not admire and reflect back on my trip to Grenada. This trip taught me more than I could imagine and helped shape me not only into a better nurse, but a better person in general . It was outstanding at how much I was able to contribute to the community of Grenada while also learning more about myself in ways that I never knew existed. People would thank me for my services and request that I come back years to come. It amazes me the gratitude these individuals held in their hearts for us.  Coming to Grenada and serving the community made me more driven to travel to other countries in the future and potentially become a part of nursing without boarders. The feelings of compassion and empathy I experienced in Grenada is something I want to live with forever. I want to spread these feelings to other countries and serve others in a deeper way.

Nursing was not my first choice in career paths, but the further along I go in nursing school, the more I fall in love with it, but being in Grenada is what confirmed Nursing as the correct career for my life. Now I cannot imagine doing anything else with my life. The nurses at St. George's and the nursing students of SGU showed me that although we are from different parts of the world that caring is the center of Nursing and is what links us together as a profession. I felt a part of a community being in Grenada and it was amazing being able to be there for others and lose myself in the service of these men and women. I learned that community health is just as important as working in a hospital and that "our health is our wealth" and it starts with education. It starts with the nurses and I will forever be grateful for the opportunities I endured while on this trip. It made my journey of becoming a nurse extra special and more profound.
